Marine Environment Education

 

1. Encourage local, community-based historic preservation activities.

   A.  Work with partnership with local, regional and statewide colleagues, strengthen

         public and private programs to help communities incorporate preservation into

         planning and revitalization efforts.

   B.  Expand historic and archaeological resources identification activities in communities

  C. Improve local preservations awareness and education initiatives.

  D. Improve access to preservation information.

  E. Through collaborative efforts, seek opportunities to promote heritage tourism    

        efforts across the state..

 

2. Improve communication and strengthen working relationships

    among public agencies in order to link preservation with local,

    regional and statewide planning and development initiatives.

  A.  Organize and offer preservation training and education activities.

  B.  Reach out to involved public partners to improve existing and new preservation projects,

        programs and initiatives.

  C.  Share and exchange information in an effort to improve communication and strengthen

        working relationships.

 

3. Educate New Yorkers on the importance of preserving the state's

    rich heritage.

  A.  Improve access and the relay of preservations information to local communities.

  B.  Strengthen and expand local, regional and statewide partnerships in an effort to

        increase preservation awareness and encourage local revitalization activities.

  C.  Reach out to involved individuals and institutions in developing preservation education

        programs for all ages, especially younger audiences and students.

 

 4. Develop strategies to advance preservation as a catalyst for

     community revitalization and tourism.

   A. Highlight successful community revitalization efforts as a means to promote and encourage

        the preservation and renewal of New York's historic built environment.

   B. Improve the techniques, treatments and tools available for local preservation and community

       renewal efforts.

 

5. Promote recognition of New York's historic properties as a means of

    increasing awareness and appreciation of the state's heritage.

  A. Improve access to identification and recognition programs, especially the

      State and National Registers of Historic Places.

  B. Increase access to information on historic properties for education, promotion,

      scholarship and publication.

  C. Highlight the diversity of historic properties that have been and continue to be recognized in

       New York State.

 

6. Improve the protection and treatment of historic and archaeological

    resources during the public project planning process.

  A. Assess local, state and federal preservation environmental review processes and

       identify strategies for improvement.

  B. Improve the management of the state's preservation environmental review information,

      including content, distribution and access.

 

7. Promote awareness & appreciation of New York State's archaeological

   heritage.

  A. Increase efforts to identify, recognize and preserve the state's archaeological heritage.

  B. Develop strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of archaeological resource

      environmental review during the planning and development of local, state and federal projects.

 C. Improve the content of and access to information about archaeology in New York State.
